Scott Runkel — President
Scott holds a bachelor's degree in artificial intelligence computer programming and creative writing from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass. His professional experience includes work as a writer, editor, communications specialist, project manager, graphic designer, systems manager, digital video editor, multimedia developer, programmer, and business owner. From 1995 through 2007, he specialized in advanced Macromedia Director programming and web development. Now he oversees the continued expansion of Hypix.
Karl Baumann — Business Development Manager, CME Solutions
Karl holds a bachelor's degree in telecommunications from Michigan State University. From 1988 through 2005 he worked for a number of educational technology publishing companies including AIMS Multimedia, the National Geographic Society, and TurnLeaf/McGraw-Hill. In 2005 he joined EBSCO Publishing/Biomedical where he worked directly with doctors, nurses, medical librarians, and related healthcare providers to deliver and implement medical and patient resources. These included customized CME, secure online evidence-based research databases, point-of-care applications, and hospital patient records management tools. Currently, Karl provides outstanding customer service to all of Hypix’s clients while establishing long-term relationships that lead to better products and services.
Ptolemy Runkel — Creative Advisor
Ptolemy holds a bachelor's degree in cognitive psychology from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass. She worked in market research before finding her true passion in graphic design in 1995. She specializes in web site design and production, and interface design for multimedia CD-ROMs. Ptolemy's background in psychology and experimental design is an ideal complement to her artistic abilities, allowing her to create orderly, easy-to-use interfaces; clean, attractive graphics; and a superior user experience. Ptolemy currently functions as an advisor on Hypix interface designs and corporate growth.
Bret Van Horn — Project Manager and Graphic Designer
Bret holds a degree in graphic design and has over 13 years of interactive design, development, and project-management experience. He's worked directly with clients ranging from small businesses to large corporations such as Subaru of America and E*Trade OptionsLink. Previously, Bret ran an award-winning interactive agency where he managed client relationships, created branding and advertising campaigns, and developed and designed numerous interactive projects. Bret is well-versed in social media and open source content management system (CMS) platforms and has a passion for interactive technologies and excellent customer service. Bret oversees all Hypix projects from initial meetings through completion with an emphasis on client service, communication, and quality assurance.
Lisa Babb — Office Manager, Accounting
Lisa keeps things humming by making sure bills are paid on time and that invoices are sent out correctly.
Off-Site Staff
As a busy and growing software-development and multimedia engineering firm, Hypix also employs expert outside contractors in areas such as web programming, Flash development, graphic design, video production, voiceover talent, and others.
