Description

In 2009, Hypix Media and the Media Lab at Doernbecher Children's Hospital were again selected by the AAP to produce the latest edition of this award-winning multimedia training program. The 1st Edition DVD-ROM for instructors and the 6th Edition Multimedia DVD-ROM for providers are now in production and are due out in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

The Neonatal Resuscitation DVD-ROM (completed February, 2006) teaches an evidence-based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. The program is targeted at health-care professionals who are looking for an enhanced, interactive way to learn about neonatal resuscitation. Features of the software include: real-life video-based examples of resuscitation; three-dimensional QuickTime virtual reality of delivery room and resuscitation equipment; user-resizable illustrations; self-assessment exercises; interactive "scenarios" with branching and randomization that allow for realistic immersive learning; and a browser for accessing multimedia assets (still images, video, audio, QTVR). In addition, we created a fully customizable interface: not only can the entire program window be resized at will, but the main page sections (devoted to figures and text) can be infinitely adjusted by the user, and the text can be resized as needed.

Responsibilities
For the 5th Edition DVD-ROM, Hypix Media, Inc. created a brand-new interface and enhanced the usability of the software. Our responsiblities included: strategy and planning; prototyping and user testing; user interface graphic design concept and production; programming; asset integration; voice-over scripting; incorporation of musical score; animation; and testing. The American Academy of Pediatrics created the written content (text, textbook graphics, self assessment questions, flow diagram), while the Media Lab at Doernbecher Children's Hospital (part of OHSU) provided the multimedia elements which support the content (photos, illustrations, tables, video, QTVR).
